What is Breakup Email?

A breakup email is the final message in an outreach sequence, sent to signal that you're closing the loop and won't keep reaching out. Counterintuitively, it's often one of the highest-replying messages in a sequence, because the sense of a last chance prompts prospects who kept meaning to respond to finally act.

A good breakup email is short, respectful, and gives the prospect an easy out or an easy in: either confirm they're not interested, or say the word and you'll continue. It leaves the door open without being pushy, and it frees your team's capacity to focus on fresh, active leads.

Because it marks a clean end, the breakup email is also an important courtesy and a compliance-friendly habit — it stops the endless follow-up that damages sender reputation and irritates recipients.
