Outreach
What is SMS Outreach?
SMS outreach is the practice of contacting prospects by text message as part of a sales sequence, whether to open a conversation, follow up, or remind someone of a booked meeting. Its appeal is engagement: texts are opened and read far more reliably and quickly than emails, which makes SMS especially effective for time-sensitive touches.
That immediacy comes with strict rules. In the U.S., the TCPA generally requires prior consent to send marketing texts, mandates honoring "STOP" opt-outs, and enforces quiet hours by the recipient's time zone. Messages should be short, clearly identify you, and always include an easy way to opt out.
Because of both its power and its regulation, SMS works best woven into a compliant multi-channel sequence rather than used as a standalone blast.
- •Much higher open and response rates than email
- •Requires consent, STOP handling, and quiet hours (TCPA)
- •Keep messages short and always offer an opt-out
