What is GDPR (for Sales)?

GDPR (the EU General Data Protection Regulation) governs how you collect, store, and use the personal data of people in the EU and UK — including prospects you contact in outbound sales. For sales, it means you need a lawful basis to process someone's data (often consent or legitimate interest), you must be transparent about who you are and why you're contacting them, and you must honor rights like access, correction, and erasure.

Outbound to EU contacts is still possible under GDPR, typically relying on legitimate interest for B2B, but only with proper documentation, an easy way to object or opt out, and sensible data handling. Getting this wrong risks large fines calculated as a percentage of global revenue.

In practice, GDPR pushes teams toward clean data sourcing, clear opt-out paths, and consent records — the same tooling that supports TCPA and CAN-SPAM compliance.
