What is Opt-Out?

An opt-out is a prospect's request to stop receiving your outreach — an email unsubscribe, a "STOP" text reply, or a verbal do-not-call request. Honoring opt-outs quickly and reliably is both a legal requirement under laws like CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and GDPR, and a basic matter of respect that protects your sender reputation.

The critical detail is that an opt-out must apply everywhere: someone who unsubscribes from email shouldn't then get a cold text. That requires a suppression system that spans every channel and takes effect immediately, so no automated sequence can keep contacting a person who has asked you to stop.

Robust platforms detect opt-out language automatically — including natural-language phrasing like "please remove me" — and add the contact to a global suppression list without a rep having to act.

  • •Must be easy to request and honored promptly
  • •Suppression must span every channel, not just one
  • •Detect natural-language opt-outs, not just "STOP"
